A docuseries about the making of an amazing collaboration featuring 25 Tejanas Unidas En Cristo won the Documentary Feature Recognition Award at the Accolade Global Film Competition this week. “Aqui Estas” combines 25 powerful voices of legends, icons, and emerging artists in Tejano music.
This gripping documentary presents 25 Tejanas coming together for one purpose, one vision, and one GOD. Music can provide great healing and comfort during difficult times and the members of Tejanas Unidas en Cristo radiate the message of unity and strength. Each of the ladies shares in-depth testimonies and demonstrates a strong commitment to lifting the spirits of people across the Lone Star State and the world.

The project was put in the heart and mind of Rio Grande Valley singer Genyva Salas Monjaras and was a major accomplishment for her.
“I was able to put something together that God put in my heart that I thought was impossible but God showed me that He provides and He wanted this to come to pass and I did it with Him and of course with the help of the girls and the people that helped me there that day of the filming of the shoot,” Genyva tells Tejano Nation. “God’s timing is perfect was perfect. Everything and everyone that was involved in this video was meant to be on this project because that is what God put in my heart.”
“Aqui Estas” is a Spanish version of the Christian worship song “Way Maker” and was recorded in the famous Legends Sound Studios at Freddie Records in Corpus Christi, Texas, featuring the voices of Genyva, Shelly Lares, Patsy Torres, Margarita Canela, Di Marie, Demmi Garcia, Cortney, Marisela Hernandez, Crystal Torres, Anjelique, Rebecca Valadez, Machy De La Garza, Cristina Salinas, Magali Delarosa, Krystalina Vallejo, Vee González, Alyssa Torres, Monica Saldivar, Savannah Votion, Perla Quintanilla, Sarah Monique, Anikka Garza, Stephanie Bergara, Aisha Aparicio, and Christine Philip.
The project was officially recognized by Texas Governor Greg Abbott with a proclamation in July 2021.
The six-episode documentary, which was directed by Genyva and Mingo Mariano with assistance from Mousie Cervantes, was selected as the Documentary Feature winner by the judges of the Accolade Global Film Competition for its quality, creativity, and technical aspects.
“It’s a blessing because there was a lot of sweat and tears, a lot of hard work. It took us almost a year to finish this project and just blessed that it’s finally getting the attention it deserves and putting Tejano on the map,” Genyva commented on the award.
The “Tejanas Unidas En Cristo” docuseries is submitted to 11 upcoming film festivals including Sundance, New York Short Film Festival, Los Angeles Documentary Film Festival, Raindance Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, South Texas Internation Film Festival, and others. It is expected to be available on streaming platforms this fall.
